Sevilla vs Malaga
by Colin on La Liga
An interesting game is coming up on the horizon of the Spanish La Liga and more specifically from Andalucia. Sevilla FC will host Malaga at their home Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this Sunday.
Copa del Rey performance
Both teams have played during the week for Copa del Rey. Malaga had to face Levante in Valencia for the replay. The Anchovies have scored two goals by the end of the first half, but a very late from Levante which started at the 70th minute gave them the win for the final 3-2. This way Malaga is the team to continue on the next stage, because their home win against Levante with 2-0 at La Rosaleda.
Sevilla has played at home against the team of Granada. The Sevillistas managed to get a convincing 4-0 win after two goals from Kevin Gamerio, one of Iago Aspas and one from Denis Suarez. In Primea the team takes the 4th position with 36 points and a game less than the second Barcelona and the third Atletico Madrid. If Seville win the game against Malaga they have the chance to move Atletico from the third place.
Stephane M’bia (Seville), a defensive midfielder and defender is one of the most constant players this season and surprisingly managed to score many goals for the team from the start of the campaign. However, he will not be available on Sunday as is now headed to Africa, where his Cameroon will take part of Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Faded Malaga will shine again?
After a difficult last season in League BBVA, Malaga seems to have improved this year, but the glory days are still far behind when just few years ago the team was very well financially and has qualified for the Champions League. Back then Manuel Pellegrini was manager and in the squad were players like Santiago Cazorla, Isco and Eliseu. Malaga occupies the 7th place after 18 played games and it is not very far from the top 4 teams. The 6th Villareal are with just a point advantage, while the 8th Eibar is left with 5 points behind.
The games between these teams are always interesting and they are changing home and away wins along with draws. According to the statistics the wins for Sevilla are 6 against 11 for Malaga and the draws are 7. The last win of The Sevillistas came in 2011 at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
