Manchester United vs Liverpool
by Colin on Premier League
This Sunday all the looks will be pointed to the mythical Old Trafford in Manchester. The Red Devils will host Liverpool in one of the oldest and most exciting classics in the English football.
Manchester, the Red Devils
Manchester United will enter the game with confidence after the 2-1 win against Southampton on Monday. This win was the fifth in a row for Luis van Gaal and his boys and according to the Dutch his team was lucky to get the three points at the end. This is good achievement for him and the team, because the last time when United took all the points after 5 games was under the management of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. It seems that Luis van Gaal tactics is what makes the difference so far, because the team don’t look very solid, but despite that they still manage to take what they need from their games. Very good example for this are the games at Arsenal and Southampton where the hosts seemed to control the game, but lost at the end. Manchester United is back in the Champions League zone and the team takes the 3rd position with 28 points, 4 behind their neighbours from City and 8 behind the leader Chelsea. Robin van Persie is back in form, while he has scored the two goals at St. Mary’s Stadium. Marcos Rojo also seems to find his best form after his good performances since he recovered from an injury. Radamel Falcao is available, but not played regularly probably because of bad form. It is not a secret that Luis van Gaal is very strict and he won’t give chances to anyone who does not deserve it without matter the names on the shirts and the salary they get.
Liverpool, the Anfield Boys
Liverpool has finished their participation in the Champions League after the 1-1 draw at Anfield in Tuesday night against the Swiss side Basel. The team shared one group with the teams of Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorets and finished on the third position with only 5 points so they will continue in the Europa League in 2015. In the Premier League Liverpool takes the 9th position with 21 points. The team is very inconstant and alternate losses, wins and draws. The face of the reds from Merseyside has nothing to do with the one the team has shown last season. It seems that Liverpool can’t deal without the injured Daniel Sturridge and the left to Barcelona in the summer Luis Suarez. Mario Balotelli came in the club to replace the Uruguayan, but this transfer turned to be huge disappointment.
Is Rogers “the man”?
The speculations around the manager’s name Brendan Rodgers don’t stop and according to the rumours, Liverpool is already looking for his replacement in the face of Jurgen Klopp, Andre Villas-Boas and Rafael Benitez who won the Champions League with the reds in 2005.
The numbers from the history of this great derby shows that United wins are 75 against 64 for Liverpool and 51 draws. Last season Rodgers team made a double over Manchester United after 1-0 win at Anfield and 0-3 at Old Trafford, something that they haven’t done in a very long time.
This is definitely one of the most exciting derby games of the year in the English league and both teams will perform at their best with no doubts. Don’t miss it!
