Manchester City vs Arsenal
by Colin on Premier League
All looks turned to the Etihad this Sunday, where Manchester City will host Arsenal in this very interesting game. This will be the third time these teams will have to face each other this campaign and second in the Premier League.
Manchester City have missed couple of chances to lead the Premier League, after Chelsea’s unconvincing performances, but The Citizens were not able to take advantage of their opponents’ mistakes. City have won their game for the FA Cup two weeks ago against Sheffield Wednesday, but it was a very difficult one. Before this game the sky blues have missed advantage of two goals at home against the teams of Sunderland and Burnley, who are at the bottom at the table. Last week at the Goodison Park, Manuel Pellegrini’s boys had to share the point with Everton.
Some in Africa for ACoN, others trasferred
Yaya Toure, who has been one of the most important players since he arrived from Barcelona and played very important role for the winning of the two titles, will not be available due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast. The Serbian defender Matja Nastasic was sold early this week to the German side Schalke 04 as he didn’t got many chances to play. The mystery around Wilfried Bony’s transfer from Swansea to Manchester City continues. The Ivorian is also in Africa, where he plays next to his countryman and possible future teammate in City, Yaya Toure.
Sergio Aguero is also reported to be close to his returning on the pitch and the information comes from Manchester City’s gym where the Argentinian „trains like a beast” in order to return to his best physical condition.
Arsenal had no problems to beat Stoke last Sunday at the Emirates Stadium after 3-0. You can’t be wrong with who was the man of the match and made the Arsenal win to look like a piece of cake. Yes, this was Alexis Sanchez again for The Gunners after he assisted to Laurent Koscielny for the first goal and scored another two for the final 3-0. The team was back on the winning streak, after they have managed to win their FA Cup against Hull City on 4th of January with 2-0. This was replay from the last year final, where Arsenal faced Hull City at Wembley and the team had to come up from 0-2 down to 3-2 to win their first trophy from 2005. At this point Arsene Wenger’s team takes the 5th position in the league just a point behind the 4th Manchester United and 3 behind the 3rd Southampton.
Not often Arsenal and Man Utd loose
The Saints took the scalp of Arsenal at their St. Mary Stadium in the first game of the New Year and last week, Southampton shocked Old Trafford by beating the hosts from Manchester United for the first time since 1988 and moved them from the 3rd place.
Mesut Oezil is back
Good news for Arsenal are that Mesut Oezil is recovered from his 3 month injury and he played 20 minutes against Stoke. Theo Walcott is also recovered and will be able to play if the manager decides to count on him. The right back Mathieu Debuchy, who have missed the first three months of the season has recovered a month ago, but now the French international is threatened to miss up to 3 months, because of the arm injury he got in the Stoke’s game. Marko Arnautovic have commited meaningless foul against Debuchy by pushing him to the electronic boards behind the Ospina’s net. The French was replaced by the youngster Hector Bellerin and the doubts are for dislocated shoulder.
Who will move in/out of Arsenal?
The transfer news and speculations around Arsenal are pretty quite at the moment, while Wenger said he might need to strength the team with a defender and according to the last information the team is getting very close to the Polish talent from Legia Warsaw, Krystian Bielik who plays as a defensive midfielder.
94 wins, but 4 years without one at Etihad
The first game this season at the Emirates has finished 2-2 and before that City and Arsenal have faced each other for the Community Shield at Wembley, a game lost by The Citizens with 3-0. The Gunners are far more successful in this clash during the years with 94 wins against 49 for Man. City and 43 draws. The last Arsenal win at the Etihad comes from 2010. Since then the Gunners have recorded two losses and one draw at the City of Manchester.
