Liverpool vs Chelsea

by Caroline on Premier League

After the failures of English teams in the Champions League games this week we get our eyes back to the domestic competition in the Premier League. On Saturday Anfield road is going to host the game between Liverpool and Chelsea.

Gerrard vs Costa

The Reds from Merseyside lost the title race on their stadium against this opponent last year. Steven Gerrard will not want to remember this game, because of the mistake he made in the centre of the midfield, which gave the lead to Chelsea.

The Reds feeling blue

Liverpool this season is merely a shadow of what they played last year. They were left by their leader Luis Suarez and the team struggles in all the competitions. After ten games they take the seventh place with fourteen points. The Reds struggle recently, missing Daniel Sturridge, which is reflected with the lack of goals, and Mario Balotelli stuck with his poor performance, not being able to help out in the field. Brendan Rogers has a tough nut to crack – to use old favourites or to use a fresh blood.

The Blues hot red

Chelsea looks more solid though. The Blues are the leader of PL with twenty six points and are the only team still unbeaten in the league. Jose Mourinho is back and hungry for success more than ever and Diego Costa will probably be in the first eleven after pausing due to injury. He has scored nine goals in eight Premier League games this season. Should he score on Saturday he will be the equal second quickest Chelsea player to reach double figures in the top flight.

Anfield – all or nothing

It doesn’t seem that Liverpool is ready to do something big in this game, but this is Anfield and it will be the perfect moment for Brendan Rodgers and his boys to come back and to start winning again. They definitely showed some good football going with the second squad against Real last Tuesday. As Rogers explains his choice: “I put out the best team on Tuesday that could get a result. My players were magnificent, I think the criticism is a disservice to them.” The question is – who will Jose Mourinho use to seal Chelsea’s leadership?
