Chelsea vs Newcastle United
by Colin on Premier League
This Saturday the leadership in the Premier League is put on stake. The leader Chelsea will host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in game number 21 from the Premier League calendar this season. It is very interesting at the top as Manchester City has the same amount of points as Chelsea (46) and the same goal difference (25).
Chelsea has finished 2014 with a 1-1 draw at Southampton and started 2015 with a surprising 5-3 loss at White Hart Lane against Tottenham. It was a second loss this season for the Blues. The game was played in the North side of London, just 20 miles from Chelsea’s home. The first missed points for Jose Mourinho’s team were exactly against The Geordies at St. James Park, month ago, while Alan Pardew was still Newcastle’s manager. Early this week Pardew has left the club to take the rule over Crystal Palace. The ex Charlton, West Ham and Newcastle manager has made 128 appearances for Palace in the period of 1987-1991.
Jose Mourinho is complaining very often on the referees in the last couple of weeks and according to his words, the poor decisions that they take may send out players like Eden Hazard from England.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is looking to appoint a foreign manager, while John Carver, who is the caretaker at the club, will take out the players at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. There are speculations that Claudio Ranieri wants to manage the club from Tyneside.
The Geordies are going to miss two of their best players for this game, while Cheik Tiote and Papiss Cisse left to Africa Cup of Nations to play for their countries, Ivory Coast and Senegal. The winter transfer windows was opened on 1st of January and there are many speculations around Moussa Sissoko and the interest is coming from Arsenal and PSG. The French club wants to use the former midfielder Yohan Cabaye as a changing coin in their attempts to land Sissoko in Parc de Princes. Hatem Ben Arfa has also left the club as a free transfer and will continue his career in France. He was on loan at Hull, but made only 9 starts and his frivolous attitude is not being tolerated in England.
FA Cup for Chelsea?
The Geordies were defeated at King Power Stadium from Leciester City by 1-0 for the FA Cup and Chelsea have easily won their game at home against Watford with 3-0.
Interesting fact is that Chelsea managed to win only two and to lose four of the last sixth games between these teams. The last win of Newcastle at Stamford Bridge comes from 2012. Chelsea’s wins in this exciting game are 65 against 52 for Newcastle United and 39 draws.
