Chelsea vs Manchester City

by Colin on Premier League

Chelsea – Manchester City! This will be the name of the Premier League this weekend! The leader Chelsea will host the second in the ranking Manchester City at their Stamford Bridge in this breathtaking football spectacle.

Top of the table

We have to say that both teams can’t boast with being in a good form. While Manchester City lost their two previous games at home with 0-2, against Arsenal for the Premier League and against Middlesebrough for the FA Cup, Chelsea went out from the FA Cup tournament, leaving 40 000 fans at the Bridge in shock after the surprising loss against the 8th in League 1 team of Bradford City.
Jose Mourinho said before the game that it will be a real shame if his Chelsea lose this game. After 37 minutes the outcome of the game seemed to be clear after 2-0 comfort lead for the blues. Bredford managed to score just before the half time, but what happened in the last 15 minutes changed the history. In the 75th minute Bredford equalized and added two more goals in the last 10 minutes for the final 2-4 to make a real holiday for their excited traveling fans. The Special One, Jose Mourinho, was speechless after the game and he has punished his players with silence in the dressing room.

Mourinho is always right?

Many blamed the Portuguese for his strategy for the game. Jose used most of the players who don’t get much of a chance to play this season and the majority even suspected that he wanted to fail on purpose, in order to relocate the strength of his players for the title race and the Champions League. Mourinho of course defined the rumours as being ridiculous.

Last week in the #BPL

During the week Chelsea had to face Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in a replay for the Capital One Cup, after 1-1 in the first game at Anfield. The game finished 0-0 in the 90 minutes and Chelsea was the one to reach the final at Wembley, after Branislav Ivanovic header scored from a set piece. Capital One Cup (The League Cup back then) was the first trophy won by Jose Mourinho as a manager of Chelsea. The Portuguese has used his first eleven squad to play against Liverpool, which was a surprising move from him.

ACoN still on, players still out

Manchester City is struggling without their captain in the midfield, Yaya Toure, who is with the national team of Ivory Coast at Equatorial Guinea for the Africa Cup of Nations 2015. The Citizens have lost their last two games and didn’t managed to get a win without their captain. This shows how important Toure is for the midfield of the team. Wilfried Bony was officially announced as the Manchester City player with a 25 million pounds move from Swansea City, but currently he is also in Africa with his national team.
Arsenal was the team to beat City in the last Premier League game, played at the Etihad. The Gunners dominated the whole game by leaving their opponents to attack and hit them on counter attacks, while defending on top level.

Emotions on Stamford Bridge

The Saturday game will be very emotional for Chelsea’s former midfielder Frank Lampard, who is returning to Stamford Bridge where he spent 13 years. He left in the summer and was supposed to join the Major League Soccer, New York City, but the owners, who also own the Manchester City, convinced him to stay on the Iles
In the first game between Man City and Chelsea this season, at the Etihad, Lampard appeared at the end of the game when the result was 0-1 for Chelsea and with his first touch managed to score the equalizer and to win the point for his new club.
Now 5 points separate Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table. Chelsea are with 52 and City with 47. The Citizens managed to get the three points out of Stamford Bridge for the last time in 2010 after a solid 2-4 win. Franky Lampard have scored twice for Chelsea back then and Craig Bellamy (2) and Carloz Tevez (2) have won it for City. For the statistics the Chelsea’s wins in this game are 63 against 38 draws and 50 wins for Manchester City.
