As we draw closer to the kickoff of the group stages of the world’s most prestigious club football competition in Europe, we promise to give you all key facts ahead of each match. This year promises to be a cracker, as teams have already been drawn up in groups.
A close look at several eye-catching fixtures:
Group D fixture tends to be one of the most exciting in this preliminary stage, but points to note are that both teams are yet to live up to their last season standards. In fact, both teams are somewhat struggling as the season kicked off with Real grabbing only four points out of four matches and Man. City only managed a draw last week. Both sides are ambitious no doubt, but if they hope to go far in this competition both teams have to bring their ‘A’ game.
Group E we have the European champions against Juventus. Chelsea, despite being European champions and current league leaders, started this season on a shaky note loosing emphatically to (European super cup final) Athletico Madrid, but Juventus on the other hand only just returned to champions league after becoming champions of Seria A last season and named favorites to win this derby.
In group F Bayern are set favorites against their counterparts Valencia and this is due to their top form and may have no problem sailing through the group stage.
In groups C, G and H, teams like Milan, Barcelona and Man. United are presumed safe as they face no real treats from their opponents in the group stage.
Last but not least, league debutants Montpeiller would be hoping to upset Arsene Wengers Arsenal as they take part in their first ever UEFA Champions league.
